Residents Experience the Anzac Memorial
On Friday 17th July, a large group of Vasey Communities residents from 4 villages travelled to the Anzac Memorial at Hyde Park, Sydney. This resident outing was both a meaningful one, as many have veteran connections, as well as an opportunity for enriching social connection and was made possible thanks to an Office of Veterans Affairs ‘Veteran Community Grant’ proudly funded by the NSW Government. It represented an opportunity for residents to learn, reflect and connect with the contributions of veterans, war widows and Defence personnel.
First stop was visiting and experiencing the respectful nature of the heritage-listed war memorial, museum and monument. The Anzac Memorial was built to be a memorial to all Australians who made the ultimate sacrifice in service during the First World War, not just those from the Gallipoli campaign to whom the term “Anzac” was first associated.
Following the Memorial visit the resident group were able to enjoy a lunch together in Martin Place, an opportunity to share their own stories, their family veteran connections and have some fun!
