Elder Abuse Prevention and Response Policy
Our Commitment
Everyone has the right to live free from abuse, neglect and exploitation. This is a fundamental human right and a core expectation within our communities.
At Vasey Housing Association, we are committed to providing a safe, respectful and inclusive environment where all residents are treated with dignity and feel supported in their homes.
We have a zero-tolerance approach to elder abuse and are committed to preventing harm and responding promptly to any concerns.
Understanding Elder Abuse
Elder abuse is any act, or failure to act, that causes harm, distress, or loss to an older person. It can occur in any setting, including community housing environments, and is often underreported.
Elder abuse may include:
- Physical abuse – causing injury or harm
- Emotional or psychological abuse – intimidation, threats, or humiliation
- Financial abuse – misuse or theft of money, property, or assets
- Neglect – failure to provide necessary care or support
- Social abuse – isolation or preventing participation in community life
Our Principles
We are guided by the following principles:
- Safety – Every resident has the right to feel safe in their home
- Respect and dignity – All individuals are treated fairly and with compassion
- Independence and choice – Residents are supported to make their own decisions
- Speaking up – Concerns are encouraged and addressed without fear
- Accountability – All reports are acted on appropriately and transparently
Speaking Up About Concerns

Reports can be made to:
